Just like any operating system, it can become corrupt and either require a reset or total reinstallation to recover the system – Damage to your android system can happen at any time and it usually happens when the system is not shut down properly, usually during a power cut – Other condition such as a power surge have being known to unexpectedly damage TV box’s.
Before we begin with the few tutorials to recovering your box, their are certain conditions where your MXQ box may have other issues which may not be repairable or require other methods to fix.
No lights on the box, no output on screen and non responsive – Unfortuantly your box is probably become damaged at a hardware level and cannot be repaired – Although theirs a chance it just a dead power supply.
Flashing blue LED – A blinking blue light usually indicates a faulty power supply, simply replacing could save your box
Flickering red LED – Theirs a small chance it a faulty power again but usually indicates a damaged motherboard that cannot be repaired.
Puff of smoke and or burning smell – Unfortunatly your box is beyond repair, theirs a chance a power surge has damaged the motherboard or a faulty power supply has caused the issue.
Strange on screen colours during a film – This could simply be a faulty HDMI cable, if a replaced HDMI cable does not fix the issue, theirs a chance that the GPU has become damaged and cannot be repaired.
Suddenly TV screen goes black and come straight back on during usage – This is an interesting fault, as its not actually a fault with your MXQ – You may have a faulty thermostat in your home which causes this issue – Listen for a clicking noise in your home, such as your central heating – This is normal and is not a fault from your MXQ.
Toothpick Factory Reset Method
This method is used if your box can only load to the mbox logo or gets stuck on some other splash screen – This can also help if your android system starts misbehaving and or starts doing weird things
Please note that some MXQ’s have their bios menu locked, this then requires us to restore the box using Amlogics USB Burning Recovery Tool.
